Yeah, Ha’Penny here is not my finest work… 🙂 One thing this little experiment has taught me is how difficult it is to draw (or by extension, do anything) in a style that’s not your own. My original concept for this strip was to do it in 3D CGI, just not LEGO; the concept I had in mind was Disney/Pixar’s recent stuff. I’m particularly enamored of Brave, who’s Merida must’ve been an ancient ancestor of Penny. Alas, I spent 2 solid weeks on building characters in 3DS Max to that end, and they were still quite bad. So, I figured I’d draw this one, too, mimicking a similar cartoony style… I might have been better off with the 3D! Fortunately, next week’s strips (at least Mon & Fri) are in a style more my own. 🙂
Ha’Penny’s muscles…
It looks like she could bench press that car.

I’d call that baby fat — seriously. Or we could go with Phil’s explanation.
But I’m enjoying the shifts in artwork here. Phil’s doing pretty good for being out of his comfort zone.
OMG — this Penny reminds me of a certain spacefarin’ mechanic!
Machines just got workin’s and they talk to her! 😀
Im loving how the style changes for the different universes
Thanks, MAT!
Ha’Penny’s drawing makes me think of Lilo from Lilo & Stitch.
Good catch! L&S seemed fitting, with the “big sister/little sister” vibe I was seeking.
Y’know, I just recommended this comic to my brother because he’s a big Lego fan, and then you go and change the style!
Not to worry – without giving too much away, let me assure you that we’ll be back in LEGO land by the end of next week 😉
